Our first full day at Tahoe was laid back and pretty much up to us how much or how little we wanted to do! With nothing planned, we decided to lace up our walking shoes and just head out to explore! In the picture above, we had driven up above Emerald Bay (more pictures to follow). Randy set the timer on his camera and then ran back into the photo just in time!! We do have coffee cups in our hands...but we will never tell what is in them!! I can neither confirm nor deny whether or not the liquid was black! Our lips are sealed!!
To begin the adventure, we didn't have to walk very far before we were on the shoreline. Terry and Randy are checking things out.
This is the Tahoe Queen touring paddle boat that we would ride later in the week.
I took a selfie with Jan while passengers began to enter onto The Tahoe Queen.
The view down the road as we were walking around South Lake Tahoe. Soon we decided to get into their truck and drive around a little bit.
Going up.....
and up....
The beauty of Tahoe is everywhere! The color of the water matches that of the deep blue skies....such a feast for your eyes!
Too bad Terry isn't having any fun!!
We would pull over every once in awhile to just inhale the beauty and take a few pictures...
The many different shades of blue in the water was both fascinating and astonishing.
Smiles and laughter abounds....
The background is just stunning!
The best tour guides EVER!
Thanks to Randy for sharing the many photos that he took with his camera. I used my phone to take most of my photos, but Randy had his 35 mm professional camera and then downloaded them for me! Much appreciated!!
After several hours of exploration, we realized that we had worked up an appetite....so we drove around looking for a good place to fill up on some tasty local grub. Okay...if you go to South Lake Tahoe...you MUST stop in at Sonney's BBQ Shack (you can find them on Facebook)! You can choose to sit inside or out on their patio...and the servers are amazing! They served craft beers and cocktails, and our food was delicious without being over-priced! The pulled pork sandwich was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! And don't forget the sweet potato fries!!! Yummo!
Cheers to great friends, great adventures and giant leaps of faith!!
This was our server gal allowing me to take a picture of the back of her shirt! We loved their pig butts too!!
Every direction that you looked there was a natural landscape of such amazing beauty...
We drove up above the Emerald Bay area and saw the boats as well as the Tahoe Queen traversing around below.
This is the small island that is close to Vikingsholm (which I will give more info about later when we take our paddle boat tour on the Tahoe Queen).
The lookout point that we stopped at told of the Hermit of Emerald Bay...Captain Richard "Dick" Barter who came to Tahoe in the 1860's. He was a former sailor who was a caretaker of a summer villa that would row all the way to Tahoe City to visit the saloons.
Mmmmm...coffee hits the spot as we enjoy the views and the drive...who knew they made wine flavored coffee in Tahoe??
This sign explained that the Washoe people spent summers living here, near the shores of what they called da ow a ga. It was a sacred meeting place for the Washoe, and they still return to the same campsites year after year. The lake provides an abundance of fish, especially suckers and cutthroat trout. Washoe people also hunt and gather seeds, nuts and other foods.
Here I am sneaking some more pictures of our crew chatting and enjoying the view.
The final two pictures from our day exploring Lake Tahoe from above....what a glorious day full of God's creations in nature. The colors stretch your imagination in all directions.
Meanwhile...back in the condo for the night....Terry gives Randy his first experience of trying a Moscow Mule. It is a mixture of Ginger Beer, Vodka, lime juice and mint leaf...served in a chilled copper mug!
Join us again next time as we drive completely around Lake Tahoe! More beauty and adventures await......
